WHAT WE BELIEVE

Grounded in the Bible, compelled by love

Dianella Church is part of the ‘Churches of Christ’ family, which was birthed in the Restoration Movement. We place emphasis on the centrality of the Bible to order Christian faith and practice, and subscribe to the following statement: in essentials unity; in non-essentials diversity; in all things, love.

Our core values

We express our faith in alignment with the following Core Values:

  • Jesus, Saviour and Lord, is head of the church
  • Scripture registers the essential salvation events of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection and those ordinances necessary for holy living and the conduct of the church.
  • Christian conversion is a process directed by the Holy Spirit involving nurture, personal faith, believers’ baptism, reception into the church and participation in Christian worship; in response to the grace and forgiveness offered by God.
  • We live in response to the Great Commission to go into the world with the Gospel.
  • The ordinances (sacraments) of Baptism and Communion demonstrate the saving experience of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus in the life of the believer.
  • The Church, expressed locally and universally in the world, is uniquely the body of Christ.
  • We also recognise Spirit-given special gifts of ministry that serve our Lord and the church.
  • We express our life in community by:
    • participating in Christian gatherings
    • practising inclusiveness (of age, gender and ethnicity) in the leadership and ministry of the church – a ministry for all believers.
    • participating in the Association of Churches of Christ in WA, Churches of Christ in Australia, and the World Convention of Churches of Christ.
  • All believers, both men and women, are ministers of God to one another through the priesthood of all believers.
  • Liberty of opinion is an important principle of our relating together.
  • We practise inclusiveness (of age, gender and ethnicity) in the leadership and ministry of the church, affirming strongly the role of the laity.
  • Decisions are made as we together seek the mind of the Lord.
